Discussion:
[c-nsp] GBIC/SFP DC Powered, NEBS/ANSI Ethernet switches

I'm looking for a 12 or 24 port GBIC/SFP GigE switch Layer 2, DC
powered for a colo installation in an ILEC CO (CLEC SCOPE bay). It
needs to be NEBS3 complaint, -48VDC powered, rack mounted (23"). I
would prefer Cisco but I they don't make a 3750 or 3350 in DC power
with GBICs

Any ideas?

-Matt

What about the Cisco RPS stuff? I think they have a -48VDC RPS unit, and
most/all their gear has an RPS jack....however I don't think any of Cisco's
gear is NEBS certified at all....someone can feel free to corect me on
that, I hope I'm wrong but I really don't know for sure.

I looked into this for some time. Unfortunately, the RPS is AC powered. IT
does deliver DC out to the switch, the RPS itself takes in DC. There is no
RPS that takes DC as far as I could find.

:(

It's been a while since I've checked, but it used to be possible to order
a "NEBS" version of the 7500 chassis. As far as I could tell the only
difference was a sticker on the NEBS-certified chassis that cost a few
thousand dollars :-) The normal (regular market) Cisco equipment is *not*
NEBS certified though, unless they've changed things in the past few
years.

My ideal box would be a 3550-12G with NEBS & DC power. I don't want to
get a 6503 to handle this, I only need like 5 GigE ports
