Hey guys

Hopefully a real easy one, just incase I'm missing something obvious here.

I have a Cisco ASR1002x router which is in urgent need of a 10GE upgrade.
So, I've purchased a 10Gigabit Ethernet SPA adapter - SPA-1X10GE-L-V2
<http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6267/products_data_sheet0900aecd804dc62d.html>.
I bought it from a Network hardware reseller. Cut a long story short.. I've
gone to install the card into any one of the 3 SPA port slots on the router
and it isn't being detected.

I know the card should support OIR so installing it should be simple and
easy.
The card isn't being recognised at ALL. Nothing. The light doesn't blink
nor does the router even think there is anything plugged into ANY of the
slots. Here are some show commands, which I think should be useful to
assist.

I've installed SPA cards into ASR1001s before, though they were Gigabit. It
was simple. Plug in and good to go. Nothing else was needed!

Am I missing something obvious? Do I need to issue some commands on this
router to "activate" it this time round?
I shouldn't need to reload the router?

Your IOS version is current, so it should be able to pick it up. If it's
not, it's probably a DOA or non-genuine SPA.

Can you get another one sent? And before your supplier sends it, can
they test it for you and send you some output to confirm?

When you do get this going, don't forget that the ASR1002-X ships with a
default 5Gbps forwarding license. If you want to use that 10Gbps SPA
fully, you'll need to look into that as well.

Mark.

Hey Mark

I've spoken to the supplier and they're happy to replace it.

I've got the 10g throughout on the device already.

I really hope it is faulty just needed to be sure that I'm not missing
something...

Thanks for your input mate.

Hi Troy,

it happened to me once, that I have put an SPA-1XTENGE-XFP instead of
the SPA-1X10GE-L-V2 SPA into an ASR1000. They look both the same, but
the SPA-1XTENGE-XFP is older and was not recognised. So maybe You have
to check if the supplier shipped the right card (V2).

Best regards,
Stefan

I reinserted the damn thing like 10 + times and into multiple slots. :)

I really want to avoid reloading, especially if I'm not supposed to. Which
shouldn't be required for this task.

Has anyone else actually had to reload their appliance to get a SPA card to

I reinserted the damn thing like 10 + times and into multiple slots. :)
I really want to avoid reloading, especially if I'm not supposed to. Which
shouldn't be required for this task.
Has anyone else actually had to reload their appliance to get a SPA card to
work?
Never had to.

The only reason you'd need to is if you need a firmware update in order
for a SPA to be recognized. But given how new the ASR1002-X is and how
old the 10Gbps SPA is, I doubt you'd need that.

You'd probably need to reload a SPA-supporting PLIM on a CRS or ASR9000
chassis in case it has just been newly released and is still working its
way up the SPA chain, on the back of an FPD update.

But other than that, no, you shouldn't need to reload the router to get
this card recognized.

Mark.

Antoine,

Of coarse this is bug happens to affect my EXACT version. That was a great
find. Thank you very much. I'll just downgrade/upgrade to another version
which will in turn also force the reload.

I don't mind reloading, I just needed solid reasoning, which you provided.
So thank you.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a bunch of 1002-X routers and have this issue with every...
single... one.
I takes a reload of the entire chassis for the 10G card to be detected.
I have experienced this problem with 3.7, 3.10, and 3.13.

I worked with TAC for a few hours back in Nov 2013, trying to avoid a full
reload, but none of the commands would work.
They might have something now, but I just plan to do a reload when
introducing a new SPA into a 1002-X.
I still try the OIR each time, but never works.

Our ASR1006 routers do not have this problem. 10G cards are seen as soon
as inserted.

Hello, Sorry to dig up this old thread, just wondering did OP (Troy) ever
resolve the issue by reloading the device? And i do you have a version
recommendation for asr1001/1002 that seems to fix the issue?
